Rainbow Tulip Poplar
Highly-Colored, Tulip Wood, Liriodendron tulipifera (Poplar).
"Rainbow Poplar" is actually yellow poplar that has been stained by prolonged exposure to certain minerals that eventually leech into the wood, causing a wide variety of colors. This will happen when a log lays on the ground in just the right enviroment for a long enough time. A very rare occurence. Much more rare than black line spalt. The colors can range from light grey to blue, purple, green and even oranges. A palette of colors for the woodworker, not found in any other species in the world, is what makes this a one of a kind wood.
Tulip Wood is a versatile wood that is easy to machine, plane, turn, glue and bore. It dries easily with minimal movement in performance and has little tendency to split.
